All students in Grade 1-3 are involved in Balanced Literacy, which is a district-wide arts program that promotes spelling, reading and writing. This innovative way of teaching these skills promotes individualized instruction, the use of a variety of resources and integration with other subject areas.
Numeracy will continue to receive a special focus during the 2010-2011 school year as teachers implement the new math curriculum.
Teachers will use and incorporate ideas, strategies and lessons provided by our school-based AISI mentor.
Expectations for student behaviour include: be kind, be respectful and be responsible. These three virtues are the cornerstones for our character education program.
During the 2010 - 2011 school year we will be emphasizing other virtues that are related to these three. For example, being generous is being kind or being honest is being responsible.
Students who demonstrate strong character are rewarded in many ways including daily and monthly prize draws.
